Apple Kuchen (Apple Cake) – 1 1/4 hour prep time, 2 pans, Bake at 350 degrees
Oma Hagedorn’s recipe

2 large cookie pans – well greased
1/2 lb butter or margarine
1 cup sugar + 1/4 cup reserved for sprinkling over dough prior to baking
3 eggs
3 to 3 1/2 cups flour (enough to firm the dough)
2 3/4-3 tsp baking powder
4 lbs juicy apples (or about 12 apples – McIntosh or winesap)*
Vegetable oil (+ the reserved 1/4 cup of sugar) for sprinkling over top of dough

Slice apples first (12 slices to a large apple) while butter softens. Cream buter and sugar. Blend in eggs one at a time, Add flour and baking powder, blending until batter is firm enough to spread and press into baking pans. Spread out batter in well-greased baking pans. Line with sliced apples (spread cut up fruit over dough). Sprinkle with sugar and oil (zig-zag oil over the top of the dough and apples). Bake in center of 350 degree oven for about 50 minutes (more or less) until golden brown on edges.

*Sliced peaches or plums can be used in place of apples.
